Exemestane is a type of hormone therapy drug. It is also known by its brand name Aromasin. You might have it as a treatment for breast cancer after you have had menopause.

Exemestane is used to treat early and advanced breast cancer in women who have already stopped menstruating (postmenopausal). It is usually used in women who have already received a cancer medication called tamoxifen.

Many breast cancer tumors grow in response to estrogen. Exemestane interferes with the production of estrogen in the body. As a result, the amount of estrogen that the tumor is exposed to is reduced, which will limit the growth of the tumor.

Before you begin treatment with exemestane, you and your doctor should talk about the benefits this medicine will have as well as the risks of using it.

Description

What is Xtane® Exemestane Tablet?

Exemestane, sold under the brand name Aromasin among others, is a medication used to treat breast cancer. It is a member of the class of antiestrogens known as aromatase inhibitors. Some breast cancers require estrogen to grow. Those cancers have estrogen receptors (ERs) and are called ER-positive. They may also be called estrogen-responsive, hormonally-responsive, or hormone-receptor-positive. Aromatase is an enzyme that synthesizes estrogen. Aromatase inhibitors block the synthesis of estrogen. This lowers the estrogen level and slows the growth of cancers.

Xtane Tablet is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by lowering the amount of estrogen (natural female hormone) produced in the body. This can lower or stop the growth of some breast cancer cells that need estrogen to grow.

Many breast cancers are stimulated to grow by the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone. These breast cancers are called hormone sensitive or hormone receptor-positive. Blocking the effects of these hormones can treat breast cancer.

In women who have had their menopause, oestrogen is mainly produced by changing androgens (sex hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into oestrogens. This process is called aromatization and happens mainly in the fatty tissues, muscle,s and skin. It needs a particular enzyme called aromatase.

Exemestane blocks the process of aromatization. So it lowers the amount of oestrogen in the body. In early breast cancer, taking exemestane can help to stop breast cancer from coming back. In advanced breast cancer, the cancer cells may grow more slowly or stop growing completely.

Xtane Tablet is an aromatase inhibitor. It is used in the treatment of breast cancer in women who have gone through menopause. It works by adjusting the level of estrogen and helps in slowing down the growth of cancer cells.

Xtane Tablet is also used in combination with medication for early cancer to prevent the risk of coming back. It should be taken with food, but take it at the same time every day to get the most benefit. It should be taken as per your doctor’s advice. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you.

The most common side effects of the medicine include insomnia (difficulty sleeping), headache, nausea, and joint pain If these bother you, or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are not gone through menopause and still having menstrual periods, or if you have a problem with the liver or kidney. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor may perform some blood tests to check for vitamin D levels or bone density.

In Breast cancer. Xtane Tablet relieves the symptoms of breast cancer such as breast lumps, bloody discharge from the nipple, or changes in the shape or texture of the breast. It works by altering the production of those hormones in the body that are essential for the growth and spread of breast cancer. It may also interact with other hormones or have a direct effect on cancer to stop its growth.
