Pink eye is a common complaint. It has various causes, including bacterial and viral infections as well as irritation and allergic reaction. A pink eye is associated with blurred and fogged vision, itchiness, swelling, and a gritty feeling of a foreign body inside the eyes.
The Optihist-Plus®solution is a combination of therapeutic molecules. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistaminic that reverses allergic response. While Sodium chloride reduces congestion with its hypertonic quality, boric acid lubricates and cleanses the eyes.
How do Optihist-Plus® Eye Drops work?
Optihist-Plus® Eye Drop is a combination of four medicines: Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Sodium Chloride, Boric Acid, and Tetrahydrozoline which relieve eye itching/discomfort caused by allergies. Chlorpheniramine is an antiallergic that blocks the action of certain chemical messengers responsible for red, itchy, teary eyes. Sodium chloride is a purified salt solution that works by drawing out water from the swollen cornea. Boric acid is an antiseptic that treats bacterial infections in the eyes and relieves irritation. Tetrahydrozoline is a decongestant that narrows the blood vessels of the eye to relieve inflammation (redness and swelling).
How to use Optihist Plus eyedrops?
Optihist Plus eyedrops solution contains certain compounds restricted to topical application. The diffusion of these compounds through wounds or lacrimal ducts results in systemic symptoms.
The proper application of eyedrops maximizes medication efficiency and limits the frequency of side effects. To avoid infections, do not let contamination occurs to the materials you use. Avoid touching the bottle tip with your fingers or letting it touch septic surfaces such as the eyes or skin.
Start by tilting your head upwards. With your fingers, pull on the lower eyelid to create a pouch. Squeeze on the eyedrops bottle, so only one drop falls in the reticule.
Gently close your eyes, avoid shutting them tightly. So the solution won’t spill out. With your thumb, press on the inner corner of your eyes. Close the lacrimal duct, and prevent the solution from leaking to the body.
Side effects
Temporal side effects occur for a few moments after application, and they do not need medical attention. They include: stinging, vision blurring, and eyes watering.
An overdose may result in serious complications: slow heart rate, depressed respiratory rate, and low or high blood pressure.
An allergic reaction to one of the solution compounds produces the following signs: hives, orbital edema, breathlessness in severe cases.
Indications and mechanisms of action
Optihist Plus is indicated in allergic or dry eyes. Despite the many causes that result in irritated eyes, they all share the mechanism of inflammation.
Optihist Plus solution contains compounds with potent anti-inflammatory properties. It has a fast action onset. Hence, after application, Optihist eyedrops take just a few moments to clear the eyes. It works rapidly to relieve the redness and restore glassy vision.
Dry eyes are a common complaint in ophthalmic clinics. Many external and internal factors contribute to the development of dry eyes, including aging, windy weather, chemicals, and pollutants exposure.
Optihist Plus contains boric acid, a hydrating agent that washes away toxins and pollutants off the eyes. It restores the integrity of the tear-film barrier and prevents water evaporation from the eyes’ surface.
