What is Mucopain® Mucous Membrane Numbing Gel?
Topical anesthetic agents such as Mucopain® penetrate the oral mucosa effectively and offer a local anesthetic activity that lasts for 10-20 minutes. The poor water solubility of Mucopain makes it safe for topical use. Local anesthetics reversibly block nerve transmission, when applied to a limited area of the body. They bind to the sodium channels in the nerve membrane and prevent the entry of sodium ions in response to the membrane’s depolarization.
Mucopain® Gel is used as local anesthesia to numb the tissues in a specific area. It is used for the short term to relieve pain from minor mouth problems such as toothache, mouth ulcers, sore gums, or mouth/gum injury. Mucopain® Gel is an oral anesthetic agent. It works by blocking nerve signals that are responsible for pain sensation. It is generally very safe, works quite quickly, and will reduce the pain and discomfort that might be caused by sore throat and mouth sores. This medicine is not recommended for use in children less than 2 years of age.
Indications: For the production of topical anesthesia of all accessible mucous membranes, except eyes. For temporary local relief of pain associated with dental conditions and oropharyngeal disorders.
How to use Mucopain® Gel
Apply Mucopain Gel to the affected area of the mouth or gums. Make sure to wash your hands before and after using this medicine. Follow the directions on the label or those given to you by your doctor. Do not use this medicine more often than directed. This medicine should not be used in children younger than 2 years as it may cause serious side effects.
This medicine is not for long-term use. Do not use it for longer than directed by your doctor. Let your doctor know if your condition does not improve within a few days or if you notice redness, itching, or swelling at the site of application. The affected area of your mouth will be numb. Do not chew gum or food until the numbness wears off.
